NM ranks 47th in high school graduations.  56% drop out before graduation.

2 years ago the $140,000 upgrade to the high school football field and baseball field was completed.  
This month all that work is being torn out.

On the CBS Sunday morning show yesterday there was a story about people who sing in choirs in the 
U.S.  and included some interesting statistics.  In 2003, 23 million adults sang in a choir – in 2009, 32 
million adults sing in a choir.  78% of those who sing in a choral group volunteer in the community vs. 
50% of adults who don’t sing with a choir.  Those who sing in choirs give 2 ½ times more to charity 
than the general public.  Then there are the kids who sing in a chorus --- they are shown to have 
higher grades and higher self-esteem."

Arts in the school?  Nah.  Let's spend the money on consultants and ripping up the football field for 
more and better bleachers for the 6 (?) games played there each year.  Oh and some soccer every once 
in a while.
