Marc Coan is large internet marketer of aircraft & aviation accessories
with over 25,000 names in his data base. See <www.SkyMachines.com>,
<www.avshop.net> [Aviation Shopping Network], and
<http://aviastock.com/PRO1025>.
As with all polls, one needs to examine the questions carefully.
How many people responded? 50? 100? 500? 1000? Were respondents told
how many people participated, rather than just given percentages?
There is no way to know what percentage of respondents are pilots or
developers, but the past comments in the EIS show that there has been a low
percentage of comments from this particular group. Most comments come from
average citizens who raise quality of life issues. Those results in the
past have been approximately 85% against expansion; and 15% (mainly
developers or hotel/resort owners) for.
----------------------------------------
As to approval of airport expansion, the EIS offers only 3 "build"
Alternatives. You must be in favor of ONE them. If the survey doesn't make
that clear, then it is flawed. There are Taosenos who want some kind of
crosswinds runway for safety reasons, but are not in favor of any of the
Alternatives offered by the FAA in the EIS.
Today is the LAST DAY to get your comments faxed in to the FAA. Comment
forms are available at Taos Herb or the Library. You do not need a form,
however. Just write a letter. Take it to either Taos Herb or the Library,
and they will fax it to the FAA for you. Remember to put "Taos Regional
Airport - EIS" on it.
It's not possible to send emails.
There are copies of the EIS at the Library, Town Hall, and Taos Airport.

For those who are interested, TaosVotes.com reports that
"An overwhelming majority of respondents (71.6%) stated that they
had looked over the runway expansion plans or the draft EIS.
"An overwhelming majority (73.6%) stated that they definitely or
probably supported the runway construction project."
Cheers,
John McL.
